tb.jpgOn the 7th and 8th of July the Lowestoft Kazoku Kai held its annual summer course at the Harris Middle school with Sensei Sakagami 7th Dan and Sensei Ridgway 7th Dan.

On Saturday morning the first session was taken by Sensei Sakagami working on kumite drills and the second session was taken by Sensei Ridgway, the study was a very old kata called Chatan-Yara Kushanku which is from the system Shito Ryu a system which originated from Okinawa.

The day went very quickly and 4 hours soon passed.

On Sunday Sensei Sakagami went through some traditional Wado Ryu knife defences which were very interesting and made you pay attention very quickly. The second session was with Sensei Ridgway working on the principle of Sanshin and why it is so important to have the correct posture and stance. He also covered the Bunki to Kushanku which was something else, this brought the kata to life, and meaning to what kata is all about.

I would like to thank Sensei Sakagami and Sensei Ridgway for passing on there knowledge and making thirty students over the weekend very happy. I would like to thank all the students who attended, the Norfolk Wado Kai and Shifnel Kazoku who travelled from Wolverhampton who have been a fantastic support over the years.

The Kenshin Kazoku Kai held a very special autumn training session with the arrival of Japanese instructor Sensei Keiji Tomiyama 7th Dan. The course was split into two sessions, one for juniors and one for adults, with Kata taken from the Higaonna Group.

The junior class was approximately an hour in duration with the students being taught Gekisai Ni complete with a bunkai (application) demonstration. Although a very high grade kata the junior members enjoyed it very much.

The senior class consisted of two Kata, Tensho and Seisan. Tensho contains a series of movement which can represent amongst other things wrist locks and groin strikes. The main kata of the day was Seisan. Sensei Tomiyama provided a valuable insight into the stances used and effective use of the bunkai ably assisted by the clubs senior instructor Tony Bergin. The three hours were soon over with all students gaining some excellent tuition.

Kenshin Kazoku Kai would like to thank all who attended and helped make the course a success including, Beccles & Yarmouth Shokukai, Norfolk Wado Kai and members from as far away as Southport & Wolverhampton.
